Scientific Explanation of Heating Process
Our heating pads contain sodium acetate(food grade salt) mixed with water and food coloring. Scientists have discovered that sodium acetate is excellent at super cooling. It "freezes" at 130 degrees F , but it will exist as a liquid at a much lower temperature and is extremely stable. Flexing the disk, however, has the ability to force a few liquid molecules to change to a solid state, and the rest of the liquid then rushes to solidify or crystalize. The temperature of the crystalizing liquid increases to 130 degrees F during the amazing process. Since all of the molecules do not solidify when activated, this allows the pad to continually produce heat as the remaining liquid molecules crystalize. Unlike other heating pads, our heat packs will continue to produce heat for a substantial amount of time. Other heating pads that require preheating(microwave or boiling) will experience a decrease in temperature from the time it has been taken out of the heating source.

To recharge the heat pack you must place the pack in boiling water when its in a solid state. You can also wrap the heat pack with a damp cloth and place in a vegetable steamer or a heating device such as the George Foreman Grill. We do not recommend using a microwave because the plastic could melt. When placing the pack in a proper heating source, the crystals will melt back to the liquid state. When you have completely melted every crystal and the liquid is close to room temperature, the heat pack is ready to crystalize again. You can repeat this cycle thousands of times, just as you can freeze and melt water as much as you would like.

Recharge
Step 1 Place cloth on bottom of pot
Step 2 Place pack in boiling water(an electric vegetable steamer can also be used)
Step 3 Heat till crystals are clear and solution has
turned completely liquid. (5-15 minutes)
Step 4 Your Pack is ready for another use
